This morning I have mostly been listening to Regina’s fifth studio album, Far, on Spotify.
The track which struck me the most, Folding Chair, has to be one of the most bizzare songs that I have ever heard! It’s been kicking around for several years, but in 2009, it finally made it onto an album.
I especially love the dolphin bit.
It’s a pity that this album didn’t do better in the world’s charts, though as she’s such a polarising artist, it’s not really a surprise. By that virtue, I think that my liking her makes me officially quirky!
Lyrics:
Come and open up your folding chair next to me,
My feet are buried in the sand and there’s a breeze,
There’s a shadow, You can’t see my eyes,
And the sea is just a wetter version of the skies.Let’s get a silver bullet trailer and have a baby boy,
I’ll safety pin clothes, all cool, and you’ll graffiti up this tide
I’ve got a perfect body, but sometimes I forget,
I’ve got a perfect body, ’cause my eyelashes catch my sweat, yes they do. They do.Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh, Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh-ooh.
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh, Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh.Now I’ve been sitting on this abandoned beach for years,
Waiting for the salty water to cover up my ears.
But every time the tide comes in to take me home,
I get scared I’m sitting here alone,
Dreaming of the dolphin song.Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh, Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh-ooh.
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh, Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh.Maybe one day you’ll understand,
That I want nothing from you but to sweetly hold your hand.
‘Till that day just please don’t be so down,
Don’t make frowns, you silly clown.Just come and open up your folding chair next to me,
My feet are buried in the sand and there’s a breeze,
There’s a shadow, You can’t see my eyes,
And the sea is just a wetter version of the skies. There’s a shadow, you can’t see my eyes.
There’s a shadow, you can’t see my eyes.
Her last album was much more radio friendly and did better in the charts and overall, it’s a bit sad this one wasn’t quite as easy to listen to.
I don’t think Folding Chair is her oddest song, not by a long shot!

I really liked ‘The Call’ that she wrote for the last Narnia film – that cemented her place in my music collection if I’m honest.
Perhaps not her oddest I conceed, but it’s certainly one of the ones that has me jigging around a fair bit, despite it being a load of nonsence heh!
Be very interesting to see what she does in 2011 with ‘Beauty’ – the Broadway musical!
