Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain

A colleague recently recommended me to have a listen to Prom 45 (2009 season); the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain.

I have to say, I absolutely loved it and I am very pleased that they were given the opportunity to perform on a platform such as the Proms, which will invariably help them to gain further exposure and new fans (such as I). The Orchestra has been going for several years now, and, given my taste for all things quirky, I am surprised that I have not stumbled across them in the past.

Lots of giggly fun, seemingly with a loyal band of supporters, and a great version of  ‘Wuthering Heights’ (not quite on par with the Puppini Sisters‘s version, but fabulous nonetheless!).

Hopefully they’ll be invited back to the Proms next year, and I look forward to hunting out some more of their stuff. I would, presently, go so far as to say that this has been one of my favourite of the Proms that I’ve seen!

If you’re reading this post before 23:30 GMT on Tuesday 25th August, you may wish to catch the full 80 minute prom currently available on BBC iPlayer (there’s a wonderfully characteristic version of Wuthering Heights – esp when everyone starts shouting ‘Heathcliffe’ back at him heh). For those who are visiting after this stage, they are going to release a DVD of the Prom themselves! 😀
