I’m going to keep my usual style – frank and to the point.
I didn’t really enjoy this very much, and wasn’t a great fan of the story itself – I’m not surprised that nobody’s ever revealed the ending to the play before – it’s dull, confusing if you’ve not sat through the previous two hours and frankly you’d get a bigger thrill watching something on ITV 4 on a Sunday evening. There are genuinely episodes of Wycliffe which have more suspense in them.
In terms of the show itself everything was adequate, but simply nothing stood out at all – I just couldn’t get over the bland source material. I’m sure it was probably racy and dramatic back in the day, but in 2016, this just doesn’t earn it’s keep. I suspect that this is the longest running play in London more due to producers propping the show up rather than audience demand.
Honestly, my advice won’t be popular, but I’d give this one a miss.
