I have just heard Katherine Jenkins’ studio version of Love Never Dies – the titular song from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s latest musical.
In my review of the show, I voiced my unhappiness at the main harmonies of this song being ripped out of Our Kind Of Love, and whilst I thought that it was still a rather good song, I was still a little unhappy with it (though I understand why it was done).
However… (and despite me not normally being a huge fan of her work), Katherine Jenkins’ version is MUCH more preferable to my ear, and I think that the song suddenly takes on much more depth, body and originality – I would have struggled to recognise Our Kind Of Love as easily from this version, and I did prefer the intonation of Katherine’s voice if I am honest.
Sierra Boggess is very good, however I think that Katherine Jenkins has completely upstaged her… right before opening night! (9th March)
