Mancunian State of Mind

Last night, I went to a Brad Paisley gig at the O2, and the first act on (as, with an hour set, and given his huge back-catalogue, it would be very wrong to label him ‘support’) was the fantastic Darius Rucker.

Brad Paisley

Darius Rucker currently has an awesome album out called Charleston, SC 1966 – well worth a listen to (spotify link) – and perhaps my favourite song on it is ‘Southern State of Mind’ – a fantastic song that I can really relate to, being a Mancunian chap [still!] finding my way through the vast metropolis and strange ways of London!

Therefore, and just for fun, I’ve decided to adapt some of his lyrics to the original song, to make it my own, as it were hehe!

Here’s the video for the Darius track, so that you too can sing along 😛

Mancunian State of Mind

I was down in London City,
just the other week.
You shoulda seen the shopkeep’s face when I ordered chips and gravy.
She said “we don’t have that here”
and I apologized, I said “Please forgive me,
I’m in a Mancunian state of mind.”

And those girls out in Essex,
they don’t understand.
They don’t like it when I hold the door,
when I say “there ya go love”.
They act like I’ve done something wrong,
and they give me the evil eye.
I say “honey, I’m sorry,
I’m in a Mancunian state of mind.”

I could be anywhere
in my heart I’m always there.
Where they have chips and gravy and they raise you to be polite.
No changin’ who I am,
that’s they way I’ve always been.
No matter what state I’m in,
I’m in a Mancunian state of mind.

I’m always walkin’ ’round
tellin’ everybody hi.
Justa wavin’ at the strangers
and the cars passin’ by.
Some poeple may look at me
and say that boy just ain’t right.
Hey ya’ll I ain’t crazy,
I’m in a Mancunian state of mind.

I could be anywhere
in my heart I’m always there.
Where you know every body and you don’t think it’s too polite.
No changin’ who I am, that’s they way I’ve always been.
No matter what state I’m in,
I’m in a Mancunian state of mind.

You can see it in the clothes I wear,
you can hear it when I talk.
No coat in the winter and a little northern drawl.
I can be down in Vauxhall or be back home drinking rose wine.
No matter what state I’m in, I’m in a Mancunian state of mind.
Don’t matter what state I’m in, I’m in a Mancunian state of mind.

Yeah, alright.

Mancunian state of mind.
Come on, come on.
Oh oh.

It was just an instrumental, but worked in to sing a few lines of Folsom Prison Blues by the Legand that is Mr Johnny Cash.
Glad you are a fan! Both were great! I love Brad’s sense of humour 🙂 Eve Stnd gave him 4/5 which was great! Did you stay until the bitter end? X
